Today, we’ll take a look at Sebastian Ghiorghiu’s last course with Matthew Bolis: EcomAlphas. It’s supposed to be the most comprehensive course on dropshipping ever created, and with such bold claims, it’s only fair to see how much of that is true.
We’ll analyze both the course, its content, and the authors behind it to let you know how legitimate it is and whether it’s a good idea to pay the $797 fee to take it. I’ll give you my own verdict as well if you want my opinion in the end.
As for the content, it doesn’t really look like anything out of the ordinary: just a guide on how to create your store, advertise it, and build on your success. It’s also taught by people experienced in dropshipping.
What is EcomAlphas?
EcomAlphas is a video course consisting of 10 different modules treating different eCommerce-related topics. The content unlocks weekly, and after you complete the first few weeks, you’ll have to take the rest of the course under its own rhythm.
Teachables is where you’ll pay for it and access the content. The platform itself is pretty good; you can access high-quality videos and sound, but you can also lower this quality if your internet isn’t the best.
Finally, each author talks about the topic they know best: Sebastian explains the technical side of things while Matthew handles marketing.
Who are Sebastian and Matthew?
Sebastian Ghiorghiu is an online entrepreneur, and most people know him from his YouTube content. He just surpassed the 20 years old mark, but he’s amassed over 120,000 subscribers. He adds more content quite often, and it’s always around dropshipping: recommendations, trends, strategies, etc.
Sebastian claims to be a Shopify influencer on YouTube, but I’m not really sure what’s that supposed to mean. Still, he’s definitely influential.
He likes to use his own story as a reference. He says he left college and quit a job in Taco Bell. He started dropshipping, and that’s how he earns his full income running several stores completely automated.
He’s also what we can call a “serial course creator”, as he has several online courses teaching the same business model.
Matthew Bolis is his partner for this course, and he isn’t as famous as Sebastian. According to his account, he started an influencer marketing career on Instagram back when he was 14. Since then, he’s gained millions of followers throughout different accounts. From this experience, he built Bolis Media, a media agency.
However, his personal account isn’t nearly as impressive as his claims; he barely has 20,000 followers on his main account. What’s even worse is that some of his recommended strategies in the course’s content include buying fake followers, so be really careful about taking his advice.
Who is EcomAlphas for?
EcomAlphas is better for beginner entrepreneurs: those with little to zero knowledge about dropshipping. It looks like a specialized course at first sight: each topic is treated by an expert on it. However, once you start taking it, you’ll quickly realize how basic most of the content is; you might even already know lots of what gets taught here.
That’s why only complete beginners might benefit from this course.
What is included in EcomAlphas?
Week 1 is just an intro with four videos. You learn what to expect from the course, the stories from the 2 authors, and why mindset is important. It’s just to get you “warmed up”, as there’s nothing really useful.
The course goes into how to find products for your store. Some of the strategies include Facebook searches, using Twitter and AliExpress trends, and software you can use to automate these tasks.
Other videos explain seasonal trends and studying your competitors.
The 3rd week is about why ads are important, setting them up, and relevant considerations. You learn why custom content is important before learning the theory behind ads: what they are and what makes one successful.
However, you still learn what you can do if you lack custom content for your marketing campaigns.
Here, you’ll learn how to build your Shopify store.
It starts by explaining the types of stores (general, niche, brand, etc). It then goes into creating accounts, implementing themes and tools, finding up and downsells, getting inspiration from competitors, and how to create the different pages in your store.
Sebastian closes by detailing how to ensure good customer experience.
The first module by Matthew goes into Instagram. You’ll learn why marketing with Instagram is a good idea before learning about influencers, comparing story and feed ads, creating and optimizing your ads, and how to find influencers.
The second video in this week is the one about getting fake followers and interactions cheaply, but just steer clear from this one.
Week 6 is just an intro to Facebook, not much to see here. You learn how to set your budget, breaking even, etc.
Here’s where you’ll learn how to actually use Facebook. It starts off with how you can create your account and implement your pixel before going into organizing your adsets and columns for data analysis. You then learn how to read this data, and parting from it, scaling your store. The scaling strategy discussed here is using lookalike audiences.
This is just Matthew guiding you through his own store. You just get to see how the previous lessons look when followed.
Appealing to AliExpres
Alright, this week’s title is actually about automation and scaling, but it’s just a single video on how you can appeal to the website “when” your account gets bloked.
I’m particularly concerned at him using “when” instead of “if”.
No videos here, the final week gives you a couple of templates, including a spent sheet and one for contacting influencers.
EcomAlphas final verdict
I can’t say this course is completely bad, and there’s some good content here and there. However, the content is way too basic for what you’re paying, and some of the strategies are quite sketchy.
For instance, there’s the fake followers issue, and the entire module on what to do if your AliExpress account gets blocked. I’m not saying this is a scam, but it’s hard to feel comfortable when the author recommends these kinds of approaches.
Take a look at eCom Elites, for example. You have countless lessons on different areas, and only the marketing sections of the course make up about half. There’s nothing that feels “off” with it, and you’re given all of the tools you need to start your own business from an expert like Franklin Hatchett.
Besides, the most expensive package is still $500 less than this course.
eCom Upskill Alternative
I have gone through a lot of these dropshipping guru courses and personally, a lot of them are overpriced courses with very little information. They always try to sell you the dream or the lifestyle rather than actually selling you information. Dropshipping is not an overnight get rich quick scheme but, a lot of these gurus make it out like that. That’s why they ask for ridiculous prices for their courses. So, I personally get why you’d not trust in these courses.
Now, I still recommend a course if your either beginner or intermediate at dropshipping because it can save you a lot of money by optimizing ads and saving you lots of time. My personal favorite and favorite among many others is a course called eCom Elites by Franklin Hatchett. Now, the reason why I love this course because it’s one of the most affordable dropshipping courses out there and it has literally over 150+ videos. Franklin’s been doing dropshipping for many many years even before it was made famous by a lot of the gurus.
