Today, we’re taking a look at Jack Bloomfield’s online eCommerce course. We’ll analyze both the author and the course itself – including the content – so you’ll learn whether or not it’s a legitimate or worthwhile product.
After the entire review, I’ll also provide you with my opinion regarding better options if you’re looking for better value.
This course is Jack’s “premium”, and it strives to show you the different requirements to building an eCommerce venture and be successful with it. It’s seen as his premium course because it’s his most in-depth offer; he also released eCom Upskill as a more affordable option.
What is eCom Upskill?
Ecom Uni is a 35-video online training program. All videos focus on how to build an online store, and they vary quite a bit in length; the longest reach around 15 minutes, but the shortest ones are still over 5 minutes.
Like its peers, Teachables hosts this course. You pay for the course and access its lessons through the platform, and it’s easy to use on both desktop and mobile.
The course offers 5 days as a free trial period where you can check out the content. If you don’t like it, you can cancel it before finishing the trial. If you don’t, it’ll convert to the standard paid subscription after it finishes.
The course is fairly basic, and it mostly focuses on building and managing your store. It touches on the “success mindset” as well, and it only offers Facebook Ads as the marketing approach.
Who is Jack Bloomfield?
Jack is a young entrepreneur from Australia, specifically Brisbane. He actually released this course being 17 years old, and he claims to be a serial entrepreneur. Jack founded the Bloom Group, which works as the parent firm for any eCommerce venture.
You’ve probably seen him if you usually watch eCommerce-related content. He’s been a feature in many publications around the internet, including Entrepreneur.com. His features often center around his success at a young age as well as how quickly he’s grown on the internet. He’s also a common sight in LinkedIn.
He does claim to have appeared in other online magazines, including Forbes. However, I can’t comment on it since I haven’t found anything.
YouTube is quite a different story, though. A quick search will show you various interviews with Jack by channels like Success Resources Australia and Studio 10. Of course, he also has a channel, and you can find more interviews there – including ABC News and even The Today Show.
These interviews are somewhat shorter, and they mostly feature Jack talking about his entrepreneurial story for a few minutes and how he’s led his life at a young age.
He’s not just an online entrepreneur and content creator; he’s also been featured at different events as a speaker. Some of these events include Retail Global and Success Summit.
His largest online presence might be his Instagram account. He’s about to break the 100,000 followers mark at his account. One thing I like to see here is that he’s not like other gurus, who just post pictures of his luxuries. He mostly keeps it professional – with most of his content coming from important figures he’s met and images from his public appearances.
Overall, there’s nothing wrong about the guy on the internet. Sure, he’s young, but he does look more mature than most “eCom experts” around today.
Who is eCom Uni for?
As I said, the content is fairly basic: how to build your store, how to manage your processes, how to advertise on Facebook, and how to scale once things kick off. There’s also mindset content.
As such, I believe this course is better for beginners rather than people with a bit more experience on the matter.
If you know nothing about the business, you’ll find the fundamentals covered here. You might even set up a nice store with some basic ads.
However, if you already have a solid grasp on the business model, then you won’t gain a lot from it since you should be looking for more advanced content.
What is included in eCom Uni?
The course starts as usual: a welcome video explains how the course is structured, it covers, and what you can expect to learn from it and achieve after finishing the course.
Next up, there’s another semi-introductory video explaining what’s dropshipping. You learn the fundamentals: what it is, processes involved, the different concepts, and why it works. Jack then moves into what makes a venture successful or a failure and how to get there.
The next video is a mindset lesson. You’ll learn the required mindset for success. The lesson covers risk management, how to establish clear limits for yourself, why knowledge is important, and how to avoid over-committing to prevent potential disasters – the latter is mostly how to cut losses.
Then, there’s another mindset-related lesson. This time, it covers how to set your own goals; this includes what’s your spending budget and how you use it as well as how to limit your investments.
After that, we go into a video about minimizing risks. Again, it’s yet another mindset video about how you set up expectations without breaking reality. This includes how you need to expect a bit of a struggle early on to set yourself up for success in the long-term. Jack also explains how you should learn from your mistakes and the required dedication for success.
There’s a final video about mindset: how to establish your final goal and develop an exit strategy in case of emergency. You then learn how your progress should progress to improve your results.
The first practical lesson comes with the legal side of business. You’ll learn how to prevent legal issues. This includes structuring properly, liabilities, the importance of taxes, and setting up bank accounts.
The next 2 lessons are about winning products.
First, Jack goes into how to spot winning products. He basically recommends practical products that you can brand, and he explains the importance to spend enough time researching before marketing a product on your store.
Second, Jack talks about how you actually find these products. Topics include research methods, how to test products without spending money, and then how to find them using AliExpress. About the platform, he touches on the top-sellers feature, how to find reputable suppliers, and how to research with more than one account.
Logos make up the following lesson. You learn why they’re important for branding, tools for creating yours, what features come with a good logo, and how winning logos should look. That last topic includes colors, style, and using themes. The last minutes of video, Jack teaches you how to set up your social media profile.
The next three videos cover how to set up your Shopify store. You basically learn what makes a general or a niche store, the steps to build your own, creating accounts, and naming it. Jack then goes into building: creating the layout, choosing a theme, using Oberlo to add products, creating your domain, and which apps you should use. The last topics explain how the different Shopify settings work, how to set up your payments, and setting up your abandoned carts.
Upsells/cross-sells come next. The video goes into their importance for increasing profits, why they translate into free sales, and which apps you can use to implement them.
The next video is how to differentiate between video ads using influencers and your standard ad. He touches both strategies before teaching you about IG influencers, what these ads should include, and some of his own recommendations.
Then, you continue learning about influencers – specifically, how to contact them. Jack gives you a general view of how you can find them, filter them, and how to actually approach them.
Jack goes into Facebook Ads after that, and it’s the largest section in the course by far. It’s made up by 9 videos, but I’ll explain the different topics in a general way.
You learn about the types of ads you can create plus a few tips on converting visitors. Next, there’s some theory about the platform itself: how to create ads with Canva, how your ad copy should look and how to source it, how the Ads platform and the manager interface work, and why FB Ads is advantageous.
Then, there’s the content you’ll be applying into your ads. It starts off with what’s retargeting and when you should use it before explaining how customers think and behave. Then, you learn how to set up a campaign – including what you should and shouldn’t do, and how an ideal campaign looks – before learning how and why you should test products.
It closes with some assorted concepts and strategies: how to track and scale your ads, how you can implement Messenger into your marketing, and when you should start outsourcing your ads.
After learning how to attract customers, it’s only natural you learn how to process their orders. Therefore, the next 2 videos cover how to do just that in the most efficient way and how you can outsource this task. The latter includes what exactly you can outsource and when.
Before the final video, you have a neat lesson on using holidays to your favor. Jack explains why eCommerce benefits from holidays, your customers’ needs around these dates, and how to get yourself into these niches.
The course closes with a video about why it’s important to build a brand, the value behind it, and some tips to start building it yourself.
What about bonuses?
There are a couple of fairly standard bonuses.
First, there’s the Facebook group where you can interact with other members and monthly group video calls that Jack uses to assess questions and give his own opinion about the industry.
eCom Upskill final verdict
Jack definitely knows how to run an eCommerce, and I actually like him. However, I can’t really recommend this course unless you’re a complete beginner.
Even if that’s your case, it’s still a shallow look into the business model. You’d be better off getting eCom Elites; it’s a full guide that’s great for both beginners and experts. It covers everything in this course as well as several additional marketing approaches, including popular ones like FB, IG, and Google as well as underused channels like Snapchat and chat bots.
eCom Upskill Alternative
I have gone through a lot of these dropshipping guru courses and personally, a lot of them are overpriced courses with very little information. They always try to sell you the dream or the lifestyle rather than actually selling you information. Dropshipping is not an overnight get rich quick scheme but, a lot of these gurus make it out like that. That’s why they ask for ridiculous prices for their courses. So, I personally get why you’d not trust in these courses.
Now, I still recommend a course if your either beginner or intermediate at dropshipping because it can save you a lot of money by optimizing ads and saving you lots of time. My personal favorite and favorite among many others is a course called eCom Elites by Franklin Hatchett. Now, the reason why I love this course because it’s one of the most affordable dropshipping courses out there and it has literally over 150+ videos. Franklin’s been doing dropshipping for many many years even before it was made famous by a lot of the gurus.
