Sebastian Bedoya is a common name if you’ve been searching for ways to make money online. He makes himself look as if he is a money-making guru from his online businesses, specifically Shopify dropshipping. His course titled Dropify Academy aims to help beginners start and achieve the same success in the industry. But with so many similar courses out there (his class isn’t cheap), you should be very sure before signing up. You wouldn’t want to sign up and realize the course doesn’t match with your niche or business. So, if you’re going to see if the course is for you, keep reading!
What is Dropify Academy?
Dropify Academy is a digital course where you can learn to build a Shopify dropshipping empire. You will be learning from course creator and self-acclaimed successful entrepreneur, Sebastian Bedoya. We’ll learn more about Sebastian later in this review. Accessible on the Teachable platform, the course runs well as the modules are readily available. About the course material, it seems to be geared towards beginners, but there are some parts where I think beginners will be entirely lost. You will see this as you go along the modules.
Who Is Sebastian Bedoya?
Sebastian Bedoya is an 18-year old YouTuber in the field of Shopify dropshipping. The reason you might’ve heard of him is that he’s worked to get a whopping 28,566 subscribers in a short amount of time. His channel began in 2010 with his first video in 2017 which already had 8.8k views. I guess many people think he knows what he’s talking about. Nevertheless, Sebastian’s YouTube channel and marketing tactics aren’t something I agree with at all. Like many other self-acclaimed online entrepreneurs, he frequently flaunts his luxurious lifestyle, which is what he uses to lure people into signing up to his programs. Other than his dropshipping videos, Sebastian also posts daily motivational videos while standing in front of his luxury cars or mansions. However, I find some of the things Sebastian claims to be contradicting, and sometimes the numbers don’t add up. For example, he claims to begin his online money doing businesses a year ago, but in his video, he claims he found dropshipping in January.
Who is Dropify Academy For?
On the outside, Dropify Academy seems to be for beginners. I say this because it teaches one to start a dropshipping store on the Shopify platform from scratch. However, as you progress, some parts of the module seem to be much more in-depth, and beginners would require some basic knowledge beforehand. Also, as you progress, the critical modules don’t seem to have much elaboration. For example, on the section of email marketing, it is only 50 odd seconds long! That’s not enough time to learn about email marketing, which means you will have to get your information with some more research.
What is included in Dropify Academy?
Dropify academy consists of 12 modules. Being on the Teachable platform, it makes the course modules easy to navigate and also ensures quality videos. Each module contains five topics, and each topic is between 1 to 3 minutes in length. Let us take a look at each module, so you know what you’re getting.
Class 1 – Introduction
As usual, there is a short 5-minute introduction to the course about the basics of starting a Shopify store. This intro is followed by a 30-second video on joining the private Facebook group and then signing up to Shopify and a one minute video on Shopify basics. Sebastian shares a free Shopify trial link, which also seems to be his affiliate link, which means he gets a commission for everyone to sign up. Nevertheless, it is still free for you to try it out.
Class 2 – Branding, Copywriting, and Buyer Psychology
This second class is 10 minutes long, and the first two minutes is on creating an Instagram Brand, and then 2 minutes on growing your Instagram account. You also get some copy-writing tips.
Class 3 – Building Your Site
Finally, you get to build your Shopify store as the first video is titled “main goal with the website.” This 50-second video talks about the importance of why you are making your store. I’m not sure why this had to be a video on its own as surely if you already pay $347 for the course, you already know the fundamentals. Subsequently, you will get around 5 minutes length videos on setting up a theme, a domain, how to create and upload a logo, installing and setting up apps, setting an about us section, and even terms of service page. These videos are insightful and very useful but are the basic information you can get on YouTube.
Class 4 – Product Research and Set-Up
This section on product research is all about searching for winning products. More specifically, Sebastian claims that he will help you find products that can make $5 million each. Additionally, you will learn the difference between a niche and general store, how to import and set up products, product pricing, and Instagram sales.
Class 5 – Building Site After Products
Now that you have your products, it is time to finish up your store so you can start selling them. There are four videos here where you will learn how to convert product pages, setting up apps, and setting up product collections and shipping rates. These are all necessary information, and if it is geared toward beginners, he doesn’t use easy-to-understand jargons. Meaning that beginners would find a hard time understanding this. It would be great if he maybe gave an introductory section to dropshipping or Shopify jargon.
Class 6 – Ad Creation
Class 6 is a five-minute video on Ad Creation where you will learn how to set up effective ads that will bring traffic to your store. This optimization includes ad copy and also the images to use for your ads. Again, this isn’t new information and it is very general.
Class 7 – Influencer Marketing
Instagram influencers are a great way to get traffic as you take advantage of their large audience base. Nevertheless, there are specific ways to reach out to them as Sebastian goes through it in this section. He also explains what type of influencers to look out for, the effectiveness of a story ad versus a posted ad, and how you can find the right influencers for your business. This section even includes negotiating and how much you should pay influencers. As useful as this information is, everyone who has an Instagram account should already know this, and even a simple internet search can help you.
Class 7 – Facebook Ads
Sebastian then moves on to another brilliant way to get traffic, Facebook Ads. This section is quite extensive and rightfully, so as Facebook ads can make or break your business. The first 1 minute and 30 seconds is an introduction, followed by learning some Facebook terms, and then you will learn how to install Facebook Pixel. Then, Sebastian teaches you about the difference between PPE and WC Ads. This class also includes a Facebook ads FAQ session and testing strategies. You will learn everything there is know about Facebook ads up until launching and scaling. There is also a small subsection on using Facebook ad credits, and its two minutes long.
Class 9 – Clickfunnels
This section is a two-minute intro on Clickfunnels. Honestly, there are tons of videos on using Clickfunnels that you can find online with the same information. Clickfunnels is a funnel building platform that can be your one-stop place for getting high quality leads for your store and can be a useful tool in boosting profits.
Class 10 – Email Marketing
This last and final module is only 54 seconds, and how it is a whole class, I’m not sure. Also, email marketing is EXTREMELY important and he constricted everything in 54 seconds. He claims this to be an ‘intro’ to email marketing, but he’s just reading off the Wikipedia definition of email marketing. I was expecting more of his own secret email marketing strategies for success, but he doesn’t share much.
Extras for the Dropify Academy includes a case study on a guy named George who’s business is making $60,000 a month or even up to $1m a year. Case studies are a great way to get ideas on how other people are running their business, but I find this George guy’s scenario a little too good to be true. Also, the numbers don’t add up because $60,000 a month multiply by 12 is $720,000 a year.
Other extras in the module include walkthrough videos where you can learn to build a Shopify store from scratch. I find this to be the most valuable part of the course, as you can make a store from scratch by just following this walkthrough video.
Dropify Academy Final Verdict
Honestly, the course material for Dropify Academy is sufficient for beginners but up to a certain point. Beginners can learn how to build a Shopify store successfully, but after that, they might be left with what to do next. And if you are paying $347, you would expect it to be helpful and comprehensive enough that you won’t have to look for help elsewhere. But this isn’t the case. As for advanced or experienced dropshippers, I usually will suggest signing up for courses to get more information or learn other strategies, but because there is no depth or no real secret and basically nothing new that he is teaching, it also wouldn’t be worth your while. Nevertheless, if you go through this review and find something that appeals to you, and if you have the funds for it, then go ahead and sign up.
Dropify Academy Alternative
I have gone through a lot of these dropshipping guru courses and personally, a lot of them are overpriced courses with very little information. They always try to sell you the dream or the lifestyle rather than actually selling you information. Dropshipping is not an overnight get rich quick scheme but, a lot of these gurus make it out like that. That’s why they ask for ridiculous prices for their courses. So, I personally get why you’d not trust in these courses.
Now, I still recommend a course if your either beginner or intermediate at dropshipping because it can save you a lot of money by optimizing ads and saving you lots of time. My personal favorite and favorite among many others is a course called eCom Elites by Franklin Hatchett. Now, the reason why I love this course because it’s one of the most affordable dropshipping courses out there and it has literally over 150+ videos. Franklin’s been doing dropshipping for many many years even before it was made famous by a lot of the gurus.
